Boat Cruising at Tasek Merimbun
Monday, November 30, 2009 || 10:50 AM

As you people know, Tasek Merimbun/ Merimbun Lake is the largest brackish freshwater lake in South East Asia. It is located in Tutong District. Two rivers flowed through to the lake named Sungai Meluncur and Sungai Bang Oncom. If you have ever been to Tasek Merimbun, the waters from the two rivers are fairly blackish as they flowed through swamp forests full of peat. It is the only one in the country to be declared an ASEAN National Heritage Site way back in 1984. The park has a total area of about 8,000 hectares.

so last Sunday [22nd November 2009], me and my family went to Tasek Merimbun. The view of the lake was very beautiful. Surrounded with pristine rainforest, it is one of the best place for photobugs to capture the scenery. For those who loves culture, there's a Rumah Budaya located nearby the lake. Traditional musical instrument and few traditional clothing are there for people to try on.

My dad paid for the boat cruise. We got the chance to see the legendary island called Pulau LabiLabi. According to old folk, Pulau Labi-Labi resembles the head and the body of the giant freshwater turtle (labi-labi). They said that the turtle got lost in lake and died during drought season. Me, being paranoid, afraid that the giant turtle came to life and destroy our boat. haha stupid me >.<

I went into the Rumah Budaya again 'cause I found it interesting. hehe. I played the gulingtangan and tried the traditional clothing. After few minutes, it's time to go. My parents bought jackfruits from the stall. It was pretty cheap, and the fruits are large too!
