“a thousand lies”

Trip to OBBD Batang Duri [Part 1]
Friday, December 12, 2008 || 12:15 PM

Day One

We left Balai Raya Sg. Liang around 5.40 in the morning. We as in me, Lely, Fyrah, Mag, Wani,Amir and Ambrose were the last one to be picked up by bus. Once we arrived at Tambing, Bandar Seri Begawan, we wrote our name, nationality and I/C number on the paper. I was in Boat 1, together with Firah, Ajatt, Sherman, Wani, Fatin, Lely, teacher Justina and the rest. One boat occupied only 18 passengers, including the driver.

We were having our nice time enjoying the wind that rushes into the boat when suddenly the engine cutted out. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere! Help us!!! We were in the boat for almost half an hour when a boat came to the rescue. We transitted to the boat. There was this one time, when Justina said that "I wanna get out from here. This is my worst nightmare!"... You guys wanna know why she said that?

Because many students in the boat dislike/hate her and we are her worst nightmare! MUAHAHAHAHAH!

Once we reached Temburong, we transitted again, and this time we use the road. We rode on buses. Our belongings were carried by a pickup.

We reached the Outward Bound Batang Duri in the morning, around 11. We had been greeted by the people there. The place was nice. I thought the place we just reached were our place to stay, but it is not. huhhuu~
that's the place where we had our breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, group meeting etc.

The Environmental Club members and teachers were divided into three groups: Damang Sari, Alak Betatar, Pengiran Bendahara Sakam. I was in the group Alak Betatar, together with Amir, Ambrose, Firdaus, Sir William, Lely, Firah, Magnesia, Shely, Fizah, Amelia, Khalish & Yvonne. Our instructor/trainer is Haji Ruslan. We had our orientation at Dewan Sakang Seribu. It was fun though.

After that, we were asked to elect the tuai & assistant tuai and store I/C & assistant store I/C.
Tuai is an Iban word, which means leader. *kali jualah, I'm not Iban*. Amir and Shely was elected.

Our first activity was something like the one when you and your group have to make the person standing inside the circle to stand, not to make him/her fall. It's like you have to trust your goup. *inda ku tau apa namanya*. That time, we already geared up our helmet and life vest. =)
Second activity was falling backward and get catch by our group. I did it well although it felt scary .nyeheheheh~
Third activity is the one I like the most; Flying Fox!!! weehee~ At first, I was totally freaked out. The cable is so long and high above the ground. When I climbed up towards the platform, I was kind of shaking 'cause I'm fear of height. Nahh, not really but I'm scared. I have to think twice to ride on that thing. Then, it's my turn. My harness was strapped onto the rope that was attached to the pulley. When our instructor gave the order in the count of three, I jumped out without thinking. I felt freedom. I wasn't scared at all! When I reached the other end, I felt like I want to try again the Flying Fox. It was fun! I climbed down the pole safely and reached the ground.

we were waiting for our turn to get the pulleys and go upstairs

this is a video of me & the flying fox. Yohh, mcm fable stories bunyinya...HAHAH! Recorded by Ambrose Chong. (:

After all of the member in our group tried the Flying Fox, we were asked to stuffs our belonging into a bag specially designed for camping. It was big and heavy.

can you see how big is the bag? If it is fully loaded, it feels like you are carrying a 10-kg kid on your back. Ohyea, in the picture above,we were in Dewan Sakang Seribu. =)

carry our bags onto the other sides of the river via suspended bridge, where we stayed. The suspended bridge only allowed five persons to cross it.

that is the suspended bridge

We stayed at a house called Bukit Pagon. It's like a house, but with no room. There were only lots of bed lined up along the wall. Unfortunately, there was no electricity. Me & the Alak Betatar[guys] changed our clothing to wet attire. We gonna go into the river!!!! weehee~
We wore life vest and helmet for safety precaution. As we reached the river, we were asked to form a circle and held each other's vest. Then we went onto the water. Brrrr~ it was freezing cold. Mcm aing sajuk. hahaha. Lapas atu, kami kana suruh teriak 'SELAMAT PETANG SUNGAI TEMBURONG' and randam kepala dalam air for 3 seconds. We learnt how to float our body on a fast moving river. It is actually simple. Lay back with your legs pointing downstream. And when you are instructed to swim, you must change your position into aggressive swimming style. Do what ever you can, as long you are swimming aggressively. Eddie is a part of river where the is no water current. Sounds easy. NOT! I found it hard cuz I ain't swimmer. Poor me~ Luckily I didn't get swept downstream. =)

you can see the difference between fast-moving and slow-moving water. Slow-moving water sometimes occur near the rocky part. It is called eddie. *jadi teacher geo ku sekajapp*

Ohyea, there is this time when Yvonne was asked to changed her position into aggressive swimming. She swim aggressively until she reached the eddies. I mean she still swimmed aggressively when the water is only ankle's deep.LOL!! Desperate sudah ea tuu!!wuahahaha... Me & ambrose laughed out loud. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

After the activity ended, we climbed up onto dry land and headed to our place. We cleaned our body outside near the water supply. We used tap water. Hey, back-to-basic. No mobile phones, no comfortable bed. Get it? LOL!
We had out dinner at 7pm. After that, we went to our meeting point, Dewan Sakang Seribu. We had another activity. This time, it was fun and hilarious. Malasku kan ceritakan. Bukannya ada urang faham lau ku becerita. xP
We were the last group to go back to our place and reached there at our place around 11 in the night. There were complete darkness and silence in the Bukit Pagon's house. Everybody had moved to Bukit Gelagas' house. By the time we reached there, everyone was fast asleep. I slept in between SyamC and Ambrose. I spread out my mattress and sleeping bag. It wasn't comfortable, sleeping on a less-than-half-inch mattress and wooden floor. I tried so hard to sleep. It's not over yet. I had to encounter two more agonising days.
